Plagiarism Policy & Screening
Inovasi Lokal: Pemberdayaan Masyarakat dalam Pembangunan Berkelanjutan maintains a zero-tolerance stance toward plagiarism and other forms of research misconduct. This policy is established in accordance with the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) and applies to all manuscripts submitted for consideration, from initial submission through to post-publication.
Detection Tools & Similarity Threshold
All submitted manuscripts are rigorously screened using Turnitin / iThenticate prior to peer review. The journal enforces the following strict thresholds:
- • Maximum Overall Similarity: 15% (excluding references, quoted material, and standard methodological phrases).
- • Maximum Single-Source Similarity: 2% from any single source.
Manuscripts exceeding these thresholds will be returned to the authors for substantial revision and re-submission, or may be desk-rejected depending on the nature of the overlap.
Definition of Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as the "appropriation of the language, ideas, or thoughts of another author, and the representation of them as one's own original work, without adequate acknowledgment of the source." This includes, but is not limited to:
- • Verbatim Plagiarism: Copying text word-for-word without quotation marks and proper citation.
- • Paraphrasing Plagiarism: Rephrasing another author's ideas without proper attribution.
- • Self-Plagiarism (Text Recycling): Reusing significant portions of one's own previously published work without citation or justification.
- • Mosaic / Patchwork Plagiarism: Blending copied phrases with paraphrased content without proper attribution.
- • AI-Generated Plagiarism: Submitting text generated by Artificial Intelligence tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Gemini) without disclosure or proper acknowledgment, or presenting AI-generated content as original human-authored work.
Levels of Plagiarism & Corresponding Sanctions
When plagiarism is identified, the Editor-in-Chief will determine the appropriate course of action in accordance with COPE guidelines, based on the extent and nature of the misconduct:
Level 1: Minor Plagiarism
Definition: A small sentence or short paragraph is plagiarized without significant data, ideas, or core findings being appropriated from other works.
Sanction: The authors are issued a formal warning and required to revise the manuscript with proper citation of the original sources before re-submission.
Level 2: Intermediate Plagiarism
Definition: Significant data, paragraphs, or key sentences are plagiarized without proper citation to the original source, indicating a substantial breach of academic integrity.
Sanction: The submitted article is automatically rejected. The authors may be required to undergo an editorial review before being permitted to submit future manuscripts.
Level 3: Severe Plagiarism
Definition: A large portion of the article is plagiarized, involving the reproduction of original results (data, formulations, equations, laws, statements), ideas, and methods presented in other publications.
Sanction: The paper is automatically rejected, and all authors are permanently banned from submitting further articles to the journal. The case may be reported to the authors' affiliated institutions and, if necessary, to COPE for further action.
Additional Policies
- • AI-Generated Content Disclosure: Authors must explicitly declare in the manuscript if any AI tools were used in the preparation of the text, data analysis, or figure generation. Undisclosed use of AI-generated content will be treated as a form of plagiarism.
- • Post-Publication Discovery: If plagiarism is discovered after publication, the journal will follow COPE's retraction guidelines, which may include issuing a correction, an expression of concern, or a full retraction of the article.
- • Fair Use: Any text exceeding fair use standards (more than two or three sentences) or any graphic material reproduced from another source requires explicit permission from the copyright holder and proper identification of the original source.
